Is the Business Name a Prerequisite for Establishing Merchant Account

Having the registered business is a requirement to proceed with the application for merchant accounts. But this cannot be said to be an absolute necessity which will lead to the denial of the application of merchant accounts.  Different providers will ask for different requirements.

Such an account can never be used for one’s own use. It is necessary to have a valid venture which is operating legally before being offered the credit line by a bank. It is important to have a legitimate business as most of the providers sanction merchant accounts for legitimate and qualified business companies only. These companies should have a good credit. This is needed for security purposes.

An application for merchant account which has been set-up legally and has been able to provide all the requirements formulated by service provider can get faster approving.  The approval for these will be faster compared to the ones that has not been registered. A large percent of reputed companies will be having financial sheets for showing the financial capacities of the concerned organisation. A good track record should serve as a supporting document before proceeding with the application for merchant accounts.

Reputable companies that have been registered and have been operating since one or two years are known to be stable and low risk businesses. So, only lower fees have to be paid compared to the pay needed for high-risk businesses. Illegally operating and new businesses are more fraud susceptible, more prone to crime and bankruptcy.

The chances of getting the merchant account increase with operational and established businesses. Apart from registered businesses, providers of merchant accounts require other requirements like business license; valid Id, voided check and tax returns of the last two years, Business phone numbers and bank statements will be required. The bank statements should contain details of the bank statements for the last three months.

So to have a merchant account having a valid venture will be very helpful. However banks or financial firms providing merchant account to customers have several guidelines regarding the approval of merchant account applications. Some banks will not provide merchant accounts to applicants who are involved in businesses like travel, adult business, online gambling, pharmacy etc. The reason for this is that these businesses are categorized as high risk ventures. Because of the risks associated with these businesses banks generically refuse to sanction the merchant account for them.

Besides the type of business play an important role in determining what is the most suitable merchant account. There are different merchant account types available. For some businesses internet merchant accounts will not be suitable and for others high risk merchant accounts will not be sanctioned. To have the right merchant account is very important.
